I am currently an undergraduate at the University of York studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). Before I came to unversity I tutored full time in a state secondary school, teaching small groups of struggling students in science and maths. I worked with some of the least engaged students and had to adapt my teaching style to work with them not against them. This meant including elements of mini games in lessons and working on their confidence and self belief in their academic potential. This school year was affected on covid, significant experience of providing lessons online as well as in person.
I am a friendly and enthusiatic person and I enjoy building a really positive professional relationship with students. This enables them to come to my lessons without dread and anxiety, but an open mind ready for learning. In my spare time I love reading, cooking, and playing for my university floorball team (it’s similar to hockey).
I love puzzles and games and enjoy incorporating them into my lessons- showcasing the fun and explorative side of learning as well as helping students to develop their problem solving skills.

I have tutored for 3 years and it is undoubtedly the most rewarding and enriching aspect of my life. I took a gap year before university to tutor full time in a school and worked primarily with disadvantaged students. I love how tuition enables any child the opportunity to fulfill their potential. I have experience working with students from year 7-13, but I am currently only offering tutition up to GCSE, so from year 7-11.
I am full of passion for my subjects and that is felt and absorbed by my students. I have a positive and aspirational attitude that is based on a genuine belief that intelligence is not inherent, but can be developed by anyone through hard work and enthusiasm.
My lessons are always led by the child’s specific needs. By taking into account each child’s unique personality and learning style I am able to facilitate the maximum amount of progress. My lessons would typically last an hour, including a quick recap of last weeks content, a deep dive into a new topic, and questions to check understanding. I will set homework or not depending on the parent's preference.
Previously, I have helped a student move from a 6 to an 9 in GCSE physics and have supported many borderline students in passing their maths GCSE.
