About Davina
My name is Davina. I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I grew up in a French speaking village in Switzerland with a French speaking mom and an English speaking dad. At school, I excelled in all languages which included French (my mother tongue), German, English and Latin. I am a grammar and spelling nerd and, having lived in English speaking countries since leaving school at the age of 18, I am now fully bilingual. I have always loved French but my love for it has kept growing over the years. It seems a natural progression for me to pass on my love for French and all things French to others and teach them how to speak and understand this beautiful language which is so descriptive and filled with such depth, color and poetry.

I believe one of the most effective ways to learn a language is by speaking it and using it in everyday conversation. I offer one-hour conversational French (or English) sessions where we chat about topics such as travel, work, hobbies, and personal interests, while I gently correct mistakes and help expand your vocabulary. It’s incredibly rewarding to start using a language and see your confidence grow. Spoken French can differ quite a bit from written French, so developing your listening and speaking skills is essential for real communication. For beginners, I offer a personal and relaxed approach to grammar, tailored to your individual needs and learning style.
Let’s enjoy the journey together as we explore the challenges and beauty of the French language. I’m also here to support you with grammar, spelling, conjugation, and reading whenever needed.
I also offer English lessons which are particularly well suited to French speakers since I am bilingual.

Perfect! I thoroughly enjoy my French conversational classes with Davina. We talk about everything and Davina corrects my grammar when necessary and makes suggestions on how to say phases differently instead of the way I speak, to “unlearn” my bad habits when speaking French. She also sends me exercises to practice my weak grammar through which I am improving my French grammar. She recommended a grammar book to refresh my French grammar as well as recommends films and apps that will assist me further to improve my French. I look forward to my lessons every week.

I have been taking French conversation lessons every week with Davina for 2 years and have loved every session. It would have been difficult to maintain this if I hadn’t enjoyed our conversations so much. I feel totally at ease with Davina and this helps to break the anxiety I feel when I speak French. She corrects me gently and when I don’t understand a grammar point she helps me to understand. As an older student learning a language is tough, but I am determined to keep going because it’s become something I enjoy and that is due to Davina.
Davina is a thoughtful and dedicated French teacher. She makes lessons fun and relevant to everyday life. She adapts her content to the needs of her students and is a positive, caring person. I highly recommend her as a French teacher.
Have schooled with Davina for more than a year; she is more than comfortable with remote teaching and has a unique ability to build confident fluency, subtly correcting where appropriate. Lynne-Davina is a great teacher, with three boys herself she understands how to interact with children and make it interesting. She’s trustworthy and reliable. French is her first language, you will have a better approach to the language and also the culture. I highly recommend her!
I was at High School with Davina and then she studied in Zurich to become a translator and interpreter from and to French and German. You need to have great skills to do this. At the same time, she was already bilingual in English since her childhood.
I would 100% recommend her as a French teacher as I remember she was among the best students of our High School in Switzerland.She's fabulous, I've known her family for about 20 years now and we always talk to each other in French. She's definitely a native French speaker and just an all-around lovely person, you'll enjoy getting to know her!
