I strive to create personalized lessons tailored to the specific needs of students. For the first few weeks, a typical lesson will have a quick and fun opening question that will either get students talking or get them thinking about the objective of the lesson. Afterwards, I use short warm-up questions that are low-stakes ways that we can display the skills we need to use for the lesson. Then, followed by a rigorous set of questions for students to further engage with the topic, usually including some real-life connection. Afterwards, I include computational as well as conceptual practice problems to allow students to employ a variety of skills during our sessions. Lastly, I like to wrap up with a fun data-collecting question where students will either reflect on the objective or provide some feedback on confidence/skill level. I always make sure to take time to write notes about my students to refer later, it gives me a small way to track their progress and is great for my lesson planning process!
