About Nathan
I hold BS degrees in physics and atmospheric science from the University of Missouri, and am currently completing graduate coursework in data science. I spent 6 years teaching physics and math at the International Christian School in Nonthaburi, Thailand, where I am proud to have played a small part in the success of some wonderful young people. I have also worked in IT and database management.

I begin with an informal assessment, and proceed accordingly. If a student is behind, I provide scaffolding review problems meant to clear up misconceptions and increase a student's confidence. My initial plan is for about half of each lesson to be scaffolding like this, and the other half centered around understanding their current homework problems.
When a student is at or above current expectations, I also have experience with enrichment work including inquiry-based learning and advanced physics/engineering applications.
I enjoy teaching math through the AP highschool / early university level, including calculus, statistics, trigonometry, algebra, and geometry, and can also help with physics, environmental science, data science, basic programming, and college entrance test prep.
I strive to embody patience and simplicity in tutoring. Albert Einstein said "make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler." Students often make progress by simplifying their thinking and taking more direct and conceptually sound routes to the right solution, in the same way that it is easier to walk on a path through the woods than through the brush. What sets me apart as a teacher is that I will not just strive to help you deal with complexity, but also show you how to simplify the work so that you can do better with less stress.
