I spent years working as a flight attendant, dealing directly with travelers from dozens of countries navigating Spanish in real, sometimes stressful situations abroad. I run realistic roleplay constantly, practising exactly how a real conversation at a check-in desk or hotel reception genuinely unfolds, including the awkward moments and unexpected questions. Listening practice uses genuine accents and speaking speeds across different Spanish-speaking regions, since I know firsthand how differently people actually speak compared to slow, clear textbook recordings. I teach students how to politely ask for clarification and buy themselves thinking time, skills I watched save countless nervous travellers from real confusion. Cultural context gets real attention too, helping students understand tone and politeness norms that textbooks rarely properly cover in useful, practical detail. Confidence-building is central, since I watched fear freeze more travellers than actual lack of vocabulary ever did during my years in aviation.
