About Tim

I am a lifelong lover of the humanities and have many years of experience honing the art of good communication.
I have a First Class degree in War Studies from King's College London, as well as a degree in Theology. I gained straight As at A/AS-Level in History, Law, Government & Politics, PE, Maths and General Studies.
My professional background is within the faith-based charity sector, most recently as a church minister and a prison chaplain, roles where clear and effective communication has been central, and where I have had the opportunity to draw alongside and mentor countless others, including many young people. In addition, I am a published author and trustee of a youth charity.

About the class

I focus on growing competency and confidence in essay technique and exam success. Whilst I'm happy to spend some time revising topic content, my priority is helping equip students with the skills needed to showcase their knowledge in clear, high-scoring answers that pique the interest of examiners. Using real examples from previous papers, we focus on the skills of argumentation, with structured feedback to help students write more articulately, persuasively and economically. My tutoring style is one of getting alongside, listening well and always offering encouragement alongside areas to improve.

I’ve known Tim for a few years now and he has been able to teach me so much. He is able to breakdown some very complex subjects into simple understandable sections which I have greatly valued. Above all Tim is a very nice guy and really approachable which makes him a great teacher!

Tim is a long-term friend who I first knew at University. He is annoyingly bright but very approachable. One of Tim's real strengths is being able to take a complex idea and help you to understand it simply (he co-authored a reference book I still make use of today). He's also a good laugh. If we lived nearer, I'd definitely want him to tutor my children!

I have known Tim for 20 years, having studied together at university, and can confidently vouch for his character and integrity. I’ve heard him speak many times in his role as a church minister, where he consistently communicates complex ideas with clarity and warmth. He is patient, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about helping others understand and grow. His calm manner, combined with a natural sense of humour, makes him highly approachable and engaging. I have no doubt these qualities will translate into an excellent and supportive tutoring experience for his students.
