I have known Chelvi since many years and I had the pleasure of working with her for a couple of years. She is no doubt one of the most knowledgeable civil/structural engineers I came across during my 18 year career in the construction industry. I have worked with Kalaichelvi for around 14 years. Over that time she has taught and mentored me in structural design on Crossrail tunnel portals, London Underground mid-tunnel vent shaft upgrades and other civil infrastructure projects.
As well as in structural design, Kalaichelvi has been a general mentor in leadership - primarily by her impressive example. Alongside teaching and mentoring in the workplace, Kalaichelvi has always been there to give me pastoral support - sometimes vital in a design office, which can be a stressful environment.
Kalaichelvi's style was to share her own knowledge and experience, but not to push that - and instead to steer so that I would work things out for myself to truly learn. I wouldn't be where I am today without her.
