I had Ralph as a tutor in my undergraduate calculus mathematics tutorials. He is super friendly and breaks down problems in a relatable, none-threatening way which I found so valuable for a subject and concept heavy as maths. Unlike many tutors in the maths world you’ll never feel judged for not understanding something, you simply are given a willingness to help you understand.

Ralph has provided me with a term of calculus tutoring during my first year studying maths at Durham. Throughout the leadup to exams, we were provided fortnightly hour long group sessions where Ralph would assist us with a new set of questions (set by a lecturer) each time. While the lecturer's questions varied in difficulty, Ralph would always be consistent in finding where we needed extra attention as both individuals and as a class. He always found useful and concise ways to help me understand and enjoy what we had been given (i.e. working with differential operators, or getting my head around many variables). He has both helped a long way with my confidence in my exams this summer and in how I look forward to next year's content, so I would definitely recommend his friendly and engaging tutoring style to whoever he has next.

Ralph is an excellent tutor. I was part of the A-level cohort that had to sit their A-levels during the pandemic and can say that Ralph is one of the biggest reasons why I made it into my first choice university. As a bit of background, I am native to Italy and so was studying abroad when the pandemic hit meaning I had to return home and immediately enter a lockdown. I was struggling with the schools online lessons as they were not so engaging and it was extremely difficult to get help quickly with your work. I was really starting to worry about my performance in maths and so I reached out to Ralph, who was recommended by a friend, and my entire outlook changed. Ralph is extremely patient and helpful when it comes to teaching and you can tell he loves the subject and to teach it. I know Ralph from my university days. We lived together for a year. Our courses also overlapped. Firstly, I can attest to his trustworthiness. He is a tidy, organised and well-mannered young man. A great tutor. There was a point where I was unsure of whether I was going to pass my maths GCSE. I started tutoring sessions with Ralph around 5 months before my final exams and it made a world of difference. I went from being one of the worst in my class to getting almost full marks on the foundation paper! I wish I had started sooner as I’d probably have been able to do the higher paper and push for even better grades. Ralph did a lot for my confidence and I’d definitely recommend him to anyone else who is struggling.

I have known Ralph for many years whilst at university and whilst he has incredible aptitude for mathematics what I believe sets him apart is his ability to break down and teach various complex topics. Ralph was a student ad Durham university while I was one of the staff there. While my relationship with Ralph was strictly nonprofessional, I found him to be a very optimistic character with huge enthusiasm for academic work, personal relations and career more broadly. During a particularly challenging maths-based module for my computer science undergraduate, I asked for Ralph's help tutoring in Linear Algebra and Calculus. I had heard through a friend that Ralph was an extremely gifted mathematician but what truly impressed me was his clear and intentional teaching style.

Ralph doesn't just teach you the method to solve a problem but gives you just the right amount of background to understand why the method works so that you can solve the problem in different forms. He doesn't overwhelm you or make you feel stupid. I didn't feel judged by him and I appreciated his friendly and thoughtful communication. He is also an expert in exam techniques, which he says is the main thing to score well in exams. Ralph was the primary reason I gained 20% from my original mock grade and I would highly recommend him to a student of any ability.

I was really struggling with A-level maths and further maths in my second year of 6th form. First-year was much easier and I had really good predicted grades and hence had offers for Universities at AAB and above. This would not have been possible until I reached out to Ralph around Christmas time in upper six. I felt embarrassed and helpless that I was struggling for the first time but he was so helpful and always went the extra mile to help me in all of our lessons. Ralph has a stellar academic record, we completed a research internship project together which was of great success. Moreover, during this internship I found he was great at explaining complex and abstract ideas in simple terms one of the most important attributes a good teacher should have.

I am a first year computer scientist and have found maths to be a particularly challenging component of my studies, starting the year achieving a third for my linear algebra and calculus problem sheets. I had aspirations of achieving a first for the year, so knew I needed help. I contacted Ralph to see if I could get any guidance, to which he quickly responded with a proposal of weekly sessions.
