About Thomas
I have a First-Class MMath degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Durham University, where I achieved an 80% average, as well as completing a summer research internship at the University of Oxford. My degree involved studying mathematics and statistics to an advanced level, including statistical modelling, probability and applied mathematics. My final-year research project was in Bayesian inference for infectious disease models.
I am friendly, patient and approachable, and I understand that maths can be challenging. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and taking the time they need to understand a topic properly.
Although I am new to private tutoring, I take preparation seriously and will make sure lessons are structured around each student's individual needs and goals. Whether you are aiming for a top grade, preparing for an exam or simply looking to become more confident in maths, I will work with you at a pace that suits you.

My lessons are tailored to each student. Together, we will focus on improving your confidence in maths, working through difficult topics and preparing for upcoming GCSE or A-Level exams.
Lessons will usually begin by identifying the topics the student finds most difficult. I will then clearly explain the key concepts and work through examples step-by-step. We will then attempt a problem together before the student attempts one independently. For students preparing for exams, I will also use past-paper and exam-style questions to develop problem-solving skills, accuracy and exam technique.
I also want students to feel comfortable getting things wrong. Maths can be difficult, and struggling with a topic is a normal part of learning it. My aim is to create an environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gradually building your confidence.
A typical lesson will last around 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student's needs.
I am new to private tutoring, but my academic background as a first-class maths graduate has given me a strong understanding of mathematics and experience explaining technical ideas clearly through presentations, collaborative work and university projects.
My lessons are aimed primarily at GCSE and A-Level Mathematics students. I am happy to work with students who are aiming for high grades and stretching their abilities as well as those who want to strengthen their foundations, catch up on difficult topics or simply become more confident in maths.
