About Amy
I have a Textile BA (Hons) from Central Saint Martins as well as a Fashion Design BA from RMIT (The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology). I have 16 years of industry experience working across Melbourne, Paris and London. I currently work part-time at The School of Historical Dress where I recently did research and illustration for two new editions of the ‘Patterns of Fashion’ books, both published December 2023. I currently also work freelancing for textile print studios such as the Amanda Kelly studio as well as freelancing from my studio in Soho in the fashion and costume industries.

I offer a free 30min online meeting to discuss how to personalise your lesson to your individual needs and answer any questions you may have. I’m highly qualified in a vast range of skills relating to fashion, costume and textiles and I’m open to teaching all ages and skill levels. I’m very welcoming, supportive and encouraging to anyone who would like tutoring in any areas they need help in. For students applying to undergraduate courses: Before obtaining a first class BA (Hons) in Textile Design from Central Saint Martins, I studied on the Fashion Folio course at CSM. I have knowledge and skills of the teaching style at CSM as well as other UAL universities and can tutor portfolio preparation for applications. For students currently studying on Fashion or Textile related courses: I provide tutoring that can help with specific projects, covering areas such as: How to interpret a brief / approach a project How to research from primary and secondary sources Design development Drawing skills Practical skills such as pattern making and sewing Technical specialist skills such as embroidering, knitting and print techniques How to edit your work Layout/presentation For students and professionals: Print techniques such as shibori, fabric pleating and manipulation Embroidery and embellishment techniques Computer aided design including Illustrator for trade sketches/specifications, how to create a repeat pattern in Photoshop etc How to pattern make and construct contemporary or historical corsets and bodices Basic and advanced pattern making and sewing skills for womenswear
