Working with Dimitry as a first time violin player has truly been successful. He not only is extremely talented but is very patient. I have learned so much in such a short little time and will continue lessons as long as I can.

I've only taken a few lessons with him but I have enjoyed them all. He is respectful and takes his time in explaining things which is very helpful. He is a really good teacher and I highly recommend you take classes with him.

Dr. Dimitry Olevsky is a spectacular violinist and educator, and has provided me with a lot of good information, and critique. He is very knowledgeable regarding the instrument, and I have improved considerably while studying as his pupil. On the contrary, he can also be quite honest and occasionally harsh at times, and it can be demoralizing. However, I am aware that it’s not his intent to bring me down. I know he wants me to succeed and play as best as I can, and that is why he pushes me to do my best.

If you are looking for a great violin teacher then Dimitry is the one. My 6 yr old daughter has been taking lessons with Dimitry for the past 4 months and he is incredible. Very knowledgeable and passionate about what he is doing , was able to transfer his love for violin to my daughter who now is able to read notes , enjoys playing and looks forward for her lesson. Dr. Dimitry Olevsky is an incredibly talented musician and teacher that values the learning of his students. His knowledge is phenomenal, and he always makes sure you understand what he is teaching you. You can improve drastically in a short amount of time under his guidance (with practice of course). Not only is he amazing at teaching, but he connects with his students to make sure they feel comfortable and supported.

I started learning violin from Dr. Dimitry 1 month ago because, unlike other teachers, I found Dr. Dimitry very honest in specifying the subtleties and nuances, especially the snaggy ones which make the violin one of the most challenging instruments to learn. Although his classes were very expensive, I chose him as he was a straightforward and experienced violinist and I never compromise on the quality of teaching. Also, being a doctoral student myself, I know what it means to earn a Ph.D. and that too in music.

Now, it has been one month, and I enjoy his classes. His analogies and examples are an apt way of understanding the techniques of playing the violin. Though Dr. Dimitry is an advanced violinist, he is very patient with absolute beginners. To sum up, I would highly recommend him to people who are very serious and determined to learn and practice the violin.

I started playing violin 32 years ago in elementary school with no private instruction. The bad habits and poor form I'd developed over the years became very evident when I was asked to join a few bands. I knew I needed to unlearn a lot in order to do more. Enter Dr. Olevsky!
In the few months I've been working with him, my dexterity is improving, sight reading (which I haven't had to do since 1994!) is less of a challenge and more of a delicious brain-bender. Having tiny hands is far less of an impediment as he's taught me ways to compensate and ways to make my practice time more efficient and focused - a HUGE benefit with my busy schedule.
Though the music I perform ranges from Rock and Irish Traditional to Gypsy Blues and Symphonic Doom Metal, returning to the classical technique and theory that made me fall in love with music has fed my mind and fully informed my performance. Dr. Olevsky was immediately able to improve my playing with direct, practical advice. He is concerned with efficient practice and in making the maximum amount of progress in the time that one has. He is highly knowledgable about the audition process and the real day to day of being a professional performing violinist. I started taking violin lessons from Dimitry two months ago and I can definitely say that he taught me a lot of things I didn’t know before. Dimitri has been a very detailed and patient teacher to my 7 year old son. He teaches to how to practice and guide him to produce high quality of sound. He is strict which i love but with balanced whips and carrots. With whips Dimitry makes my son to focus and follow the instruction well and with carrots my son feels good about his playing and eventually we always leave with a big smile. I also love the fact the Dimitry frequently performs. He really knows what he does and i can tell he has a deep passion and love for his students!

Though Dr. Olevsky already excels in these regards, I find that he continuously strives to become even better. Teaching violin requires a unique and steadfast patience. With difficult repertoire, Dr. Olevsky carefully asses the challenges of the piece, and details several methods to overcome them. He takes time to see how the student responds to each method rather than force one upon them and rush through the piece. This is another essential quality for an instructor to posses, but is not always found in other teachers. With Dr. Olevsky, it is assured that every effort is made to draw the absolute best performance from his student.
