About Nikki
I am a current undergrad student pursuing a Bachelors of Music in viola performance in San Francisco. My current endeavors are orchestra, chamber music, opera, solo repertoire and gigs commissioning contemporary work. I can relate to those who may have a financial hardship starting lessons at a young age, I didn’t start until middle school while attending an arts middle and high school to supplement. I would love to help beginner/intermediate violists and violinists through online private lessons, or provide advice on the realistic college process for musicians.

I am a student myself! I love to learn and help others learn. Music lessons are beneficial to both involved and can be a great opportunity to create a discourse about music and pedagogy with others. I am new to this, too, so there is not a lot of pressure and I am looking to support beginning and intermediate players looking to find their way as a performer.
Remote learning has inspired me to take advantage of the time we all have at home now. This time is useful to learn more and pursue new projects in music.
Currently pursuing my Bachelor of Music in viola performance. Practicing and studying music is a daily ritual. I’ve attended summer festivals and am apart of my school’s orchestra, operas, and chamber music program. I began playing viola in 4th grade and began private lessons in 6th grade.

1. Repertoire. Do you need help learning a piece you have already chosen? This can be solo work, or even orchestral or chamber excerpts.
2. You play! I will ask you how you felt about it, your initial thoughts and goals.
3. I can give you my thoughts on ways to improve your piece both technique and phrasing wise. This may be a place where you can use dynamics more effectively, a good exercise to practice an interval you had trouble with, and analyzing the purpose of rhythms and melodic lines in order to create a phrase.
4. My philosophy relies on two musicians working together, not one musician telling the other how to play. We can try out different ideas together and as the teacher I can gather what is most effective for your playing and the given piece. I learn from the experience too! I hear music from someone else’s perspective with a new set of ears.
Since I started on viola, I don’t know a lot of beginning violin repertoire to assign outside of Suzuki and etudes, so if there is something else you want to learn you can bring it to me!
