About Emily
Hi, I'm Emily. I grew up in the Batavia area, and I'm currently a student at Augustana College studying music education. Because I am a student myself, I can easily relate to students as I understand how challenging it can be to learn something new. I love working with students one-on-one so they can get lessons personalized to their needs.
If you are looking for lessons in the Batavia Area, I will offer Summer lessons. I am a college student living in rock island, therefore I am not always available during the school year (Mid August through mid May)
A little bit more about me:
~I've been playing violin for 9 years, and am currently learning piano and cello.
~I was in the Philharmonic orchestra at Batavia High School for 3 years
~I was in the BHS Chamber orchestra for 2 years
~Played with the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra for 2 years
~Taught 4 students privately during my senior year of high school
~Currently play in the Augustana Symphony Orchestra
~Volunteered at Encore Summer Music Camp for 4 years. This summer will be my 5th!
~Played with the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra for 4 seasons

I have always been a teacher. I knew I wanted to teach violin when I was in 6th grade and inspired by my amazing music teachers. They have taught me so much, and they continue to inspire me everyday. It's the least I can do to pass it on!
Although I'm still a college student, I've spent many years volunteering and teaching. Here's a list of some of my experiences.
-I spent a semester interning at a middle school orchestra. I learned how to teach in a classroom and even be the teacher's substitute!
-I've volunteered at Encore Summer Music Camp for 4 years. This Summer will be my 5th year! While at Encore, I work with violin sectionals as well as students one-on-one.
-I taught 4 students ranging from 5th-8th grade during my senior year of high school.
-I am a member of NAfME, or the National Association for Music Educators. This past winter I attented the Illinois Music Education Clinic (IMEC) and learned a bunch!
-I've been a member of EYSO, Philharmonic orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chicagoland Pops, and currently, the Augustana Symphony Orchestra.

When I start working with a student, the first thing I want to know is what makes music interesting to you. I want your musical experience to be fun and exciting. Although we do have to work on techniques and repetoire to build your skill, I'm all for having a little fun along the way. So yes, we have to do scales, but we can also work on your favorite pop songs or movie tunes. I'm also always open to new ideas, as long as you are always learning!
I've worked with mostly middle school students, but I've also worked with beginner students. I enjoy working with all types of students!
Look for someone who is willing to work with you so you can achieve your goals. Look for someone who will always be there to encourage and lift you up. The teachers that I've learned the most from are the ones who communcate well, and take my opinions into consideration. Most importantly, find omeone who will connect with you and care about you!

Details
Lessons are $15 per lesson. You will have one lesson every week, and each lesson is 30 minutes long.
Lesson payment is due the first week of each month. Please pay for the entire month ($60) at that time.
If you cannot make it to your lesson, you must notify me in at least 24 hours in advance in order to receive a makeup lesson. Failure to do so will result in a missed lesson with no makeups allowed, and you will not receive your money back.
