About Tara
After graduating from Oxford University with a BA in History, I then completed a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music. I graduated with Distinction and multiple scholarships. I have travelled extensively in Europe, and on the Indian Subcontinent, and enjoy learning new languages. I have had to perform in nine different languages, and it has made me more aware of the ongoing learning process outside of institutional structures.
I have had a diverse range of teaching experiences, from one-on-one tutoring to large classes of over 30 students, and with ages ranging from 3 years old to 65. While most of my teaching experience has been in music, this has nonetheless required academic involvement in the form of music theory, as well as practical exercises. I have found that through my experience as a teacher, I am empathetic but focused, and able and willing to engage my students so that they can access the material they are learning in a personal way. I have also taught a lot of ensemble work, which helps students to gain confidence and become more aware of the social whole they cooperate and exist within. I think these skills help individual pupils to view their goals and achievements within a wider context, which allows for greater focus and personal motivation. I have also tutored in French, so I am familiar with aligning my teaching to curricular goals, and with helping pupils prepare academically and psychologically for exams.
