Hello! Thank you for taking time to look at my teacher profile!
I have been performing and teaching for the past decade. I have a Bachelor's in Voice Performance from DePauw University and a Master's in Voice Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. I also have a Professional Diploma in Opera from Roosevelt University.
After I graduated, I worked as a young artist covering mainstage leading roles for Chicago Opera Theater, Sarasota Opera, Chautauqua Opera and Des Moines Metro Opera. I am also the grand prize winner of the 2016 Orpheus Competition and one of the 2015 & 2016 winners of the Wisconsin District Metropolitan Opera Competition.
Recently, I have been focused on teaching singers with the goals of bettering their technique and helping them achieve their musical goals.
I work primarily with Classical and Musical Theater students, and I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
I love seeing my students progress. Whether it's from chorus to leading roles or simply learning how to match pitch, seeing my students blossom is the best part of my job.
I pivoted to education from a mainly performance career in 2018. I was burnt out on all of the travel for auditions and performances, and being away from my husband (and dog) became part of the career that started weighing on me.
I have a Bachelor's and Master's in Voice Performance as well as a Professional Diploma in Opera.
I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

The first lesson is always different from the following lessons. I like to talk about your previous experience (if any) and explain some of my teacher lingo. I then like to do some warm ups and exercises to hear some technical aspects of your voice (breath control, breaks/passaggio, range, etc). I will then hear a song you have worked on or are comfortable singing. Finally, we will pick some new repertoire to work on.
After, this initial lesson, we will do a warm up or technical exercises followed by working on the previously assigned repertoire.
I tend to be a technical teacher, but I also will touch on aspects artistry to create a well-rounded singer.
I have worked with students as young as 7 and as old as 70. I have a strong preference to work with Classical and Musical Theater singers, as those are the styles I am most comfortable with, but I have worked with pop and rock singers as well.
Give a teacher a few lessons to get to know them. Sometimes, a teacher and student just aren't a fit, and that's okay, but one lesson isn't a true test of their skill and whether or not you will work well together.
I have had the pleasure to work with two young singers who have gone from chorus roles in their schools to leading roles. I get great pleasure seeing my students improve and succeed.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself if you have time and energy to practice the skills taught in lessons. Singing, like any instrument, takes time and effort to truly master.
