My basic cost to students for range/shooting instruction is $25.00 per hour paid to the teacher.

To shoot requires a firearm, ammunition, target, eye protection, hearing protection, and a range. Hats, such as a baseball style hat, are recommended, but not required.

If shooting, students need to pay for ammunition and use of the range shooting lane. If a student wants me to supply ammunition, I charge a fair market price, agreed upon in advance. The cost of the local range per use is available online posted by each range and I also have that information, depending on which range is used. If the student desires to borrow a firearm, I have several for use, at no additional charge. If they want to shoot one I don’t have available, they might be able to rent it from the range and those prices are available at each range. I provide the targets, included in my $25/hr fee. Most ranges allow students to borrow eye and ear protection for free. I also will lend both for free.

An example of the cost of one hour of range instruction might be: 1) $25 paid to the instructor; 2) Two free targets (or more if needed for some reasons; 3) Free eye and ear protection; 4) Range cost, $12-$15 at Riverside County range, $20-$25 at San Diego County Range; 5) $11 per 1 box (50 rounds) of ammunition, caliber dependent. I don’t have any hidden costs and the exact total costs are established in writing beforehand so the student knows the exact total

 

If the student desires classroom training, the same basic fee of $25/hour applies. However, classroom instruction comes with several different options available for students. Classroom instruction that allows the student to leave with an NRA completion certificate is priced per course instead of per hour. These course require that the instructor adhere to very precise curriculum that generally entails up to 16 hours of instruction. Many details are available online and the NRA through instructors, offers serval options. All of which can be discussed in great detail.
