About Debbie
Debbie is a retired Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. She taught students from grades 6 through adult for 35 years. The last 16 years of her career were teaching middle school students how to design and sew costumes at a Magnet school of the Arts. Many of her students have gone on to use their skills as they continue with their education and careers. Debbie also enjoys quilting, embroidery, recycling and repurposing clothes and textile arts. She is an example of “You can take the teacher out of the classroom, but you can’t take the classroom out of the teacher!”
I enjoy the process of having the vision to seeing a finished creation.
Teaching was my lifetime dream. I feel whole when I see the thrill of someone being successful.
I hold a M.S. in Home Economics Education from Florida State University.
Retired from 35 year teaching career in Hillsborough County Schools.

The first time I meet with a potential student is a consultation. I want to find out what goals the student has and discuss how we can get there. Parents will be included in this process if the student is school age. I also need to find out what equipment and space will be used to sew.
I have worked with kids from elementary to high school and adults. I have also taught students with learning and physical disabilities.
Look for a teacher who will teach you the proper basics, but serve as a mentor to allow your own creativity. My philosophy is there are no mistakes, only creative opportunities.
Not only do I love to teach, but I love to learn. I am a firm believer in life-long learning. Recently, I added the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo and attended several classes to acquire new skills. I particularly love to learn surface design techniques.
