About Michelle

Is your child getting lost in the classroom? Is online learning leaving them behind?

As a classroom teacher, I was frusterated with the small ammount of time I was able to spend with each student.

Working one on one, I can accomplish more with your child in an hour a week than I could as a classroom teacher with 20 students teaching 6 hours a day.

As a public school teacher, I have encountered hundreds of children with reading struggles.Through explicit instruction using research based interventions I was able to improve their child's reading level and I can do the same for your child. Let me help your child flip the switch and let that light bulb shine!

My specialty is tutoring struggling readers ages 5 to 10. I use explicit instruction with a strong emphases on phonics to fill in gaps and help readers gain confidence. My biggest reward is to watch a child get excited about reading, and to see parents sleep at night knowing their child is doing well.

I fell in love with teaching after I had my first child. I wanted a career that allowed me the flexibility to be home with my children, but found out that I really loved to teach children.

I have been in the classroom for 22 years teaching kindergarten through 3rd grade. I hold a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. In my time as a teacher I have taught hundreds of struggling readers to read.

About the class

When you contact me, I will do an assessment to see where your child has gaps. I will chat with you about what I notice. I will then come up with a learning plan customized for your child and will work with your child weekly. Every three months I will reassess to see gains made and provide you with an update.

I have worked with all types of students but my favorites are the students who are struggling with reading. Watching them grow as readers because of my teaching is so rewarding. I have an empathy for these students and understand what they are facing as learners.

When hiring a tutor, make sure that they are student centered and are on the same page with you. You want someone who has experience teaching reading and can help you to make gains quickly by using proven and research based methods of instruction. Make sure they are personable and will listen to you.

I started as a kindergarten teacher in January after large classes had been divided to make things more manageable for teachers. These students have been learning on line for a good part of the first half of the school year. Many of them came to me with deficits in their learning. I have only been teaching them for a few weeks, but I can already see growth in these students. It is so exciting to watch them grow into readers!

Details

My rate is $250 per month for one hour of instruction per week. If I am tutoring a second child, my rate is $400 per month.

Sessions can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending upon the needs of the student.
