Experienced tutor in Piano in Pittsburgh, Alice offers private lessons tailored to your needs.

Alice taught violin to my twin girls throughout Middle School, grades 5th through 8th. She prepared them for orchestra and competition festivals and taught other fun music like fiddling. My girls learned both solos and duets in many genres and musical styles. Alice has an excellent teaching style. I don't know how Alice survived my girls especially through the eye-rolling stage. She always got them through a lesson with humor, and my girls were always left smiling. We miss you Alice!

I began my violin lessons at the age of 70 with Alice Backer 10 years ago. After she taught me where the notes played on the strings ( I was a piano player) and I obtained some proficiency, we decided to play duets, both classical and contemporary music for my lesson each week. Alice came to my home on several occasions so I could play for my family, a mini recital for my friends, and with another adult student for some fun of playing together. She is a wonderful teacher.

Alice is the a tremendous music instructor. She was the piano instructor of my 11 and 7 years old daughters for about 3 years. She was very friendly, accommodating and flexible. We noted the improvement on our kids shortly after lessons started. We are very happy with the decision of having her as their instructor, in particular my kids. We highly recommend her fro any young or adult looking forward to get his/her music skills above and beyond.

I have been taking fiddle lessons with Alice for 10 years, and she has been an extraordinary teacher. I started as an adult learner, with zero prior experience playing the violin. I had been a huge fan of bluegrass music all my life and thought it would be fun to see if it would even be possible for me to learn how to play this beautiful instrument. I googled "bluegrass fiddle teacher near me" and had the great fortune to find Alice. Not only does she teach with great patience, skill and enthusiasm, but her encouraging and friendly manner makes each lesson a pleasure. Her musical knowledge and repertoire is vast and pertains to many different styles of music. One of the most fulfilling benefits to come from my lessons with Alice was that she gave me the confidence, support, and connections I needed to participate in local music group venues, workshops, camps, and jams. Being incredibly shy, I never dreamed I would be playing music with other people, and I never would have achieved this level of proficiency and enjoyment without Alice taking me by the hand to many of these events, introducing me to others, and participating where I would never have had the courage to go. Now, I have branched out on my own and the opportunities are endless. Certainly, taking that initial leap of faith to take fiddle lessons with Alice was one of the best and most enriching decisions I ever made - she truly changed my life!
