If I can help someone make a change in their posture, breathing, movement or any other aspect of their life.
Started as a personal trainer, but found that I liked how Pilates made me feel. I've always embraced a more holistic approach to movement and staying healthy. I'm not interested in teaching a bunch of exercises to someone so they can sweat and feel like they changed something.

We require at least 3 private lessons with one of our experienced instructors. We will do a fitness assessment as well as teach fundamental skills and concepts of The Pilates Method of Exercise. Choreography on the Pilates apparatus is taught with safety and personalized modifications/variations emphasized.

A teacher is NOT certified to teach Pilates because they have attended a Pilates training facility. They have a certificate.
To be certified they MUST pass a third party test through The Pilates Method Alliance. Pilatesmethodalliance.org.
Once a student is certified they should apprentice teach at a qualified Pilates studio for at least one year.
Not all teachers are created equal and not all training programs are good. Teachers who just teach mat or just mat and reformer are not comprehensively trained and cannot sit for the above certification test.
Videos are not a substitute for the real thing. A trained eye is required to correct and facilitate movement quality. Large classes on the equipment are dangerous and doing more harm that good. The same for large mat classes. You may be paying less but is it worth it?
Teachers need to be constantly learning. If they've done their training in any area of expertise and think they know it all, they know nothing. All our instructors take continuing education courses one or more times a year - not just to keep their certification, but to get better.

One of my clients is a diver. When she started Pilates she was not a very efficient breather and that isn't good when you're trying to conserve oxygen!
She always tells me how much she loves Pilates because no one (including diving instructors) can believe that when she surfaces, she always has way more oxygen in her tank than anyone else:)
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are their goals - if it's weight loss, you're coming to the wrong place - well maybe not, but I don't believe in hard core workouts, just working out smarter. There's more to losing weight than burning calories. I refer to experts in many fields to help an individual.
Same with Athletes, they need to cross train to avoid injury and work deeper.
If you're looking to save a few bucks to be in a class with 6 or more people, we are not your studio. Our rates have not changed in twelve years, and neither have our class sizes 1:4 for equipment classes, 1:6 for mat. If an instructor is barking out orders, doing a class with you or counting reps, forget it. Constructive cueing to create change is how change will happen, not just doing a bunch of exercises in an hour.
