About Cindy
Regardless of where your musical interests lie, I can help you improve your skills! Growing up, I fell in love with playing and singing all styles of music! I've delved into classical, jazz, R&B, soul, gospel, reggae, soca, pop and musical theater, and I can teach you how to apply proper technique to the genre(s) of your choice! If you're looking to become a better singer, we will focus on finding the beauty and power in your voice in a healthy manner. Vocal health is an important component of everything I teach, and I work to eliminate strain and vocal fatigue. We will work on balancing your vocal registers to give you control over the troublesome middle range. With a healthy foundation in place, we will fine tune your skills by addressing pitch accuracy, vocal control, phrasing, dynamics, expression and microphone technique.
If you're interested in playing piano, you will learn how to read music and/or play by ear. You'll learn scales, chords, arpeggios, sight-reading, and basic music theory. You'll have all the tools you need to learn any piece of music you desire to play.
I love helping students improve their self-love and confidence through teaching musical skills and delving into the psychology of playing music. Not only is music a lot of fun, but it is one of the best personal development tools I know of! I also love that I can guarantee students will get tangible, measurable results.
Technically, I started teaching music in high school. At Brooklyn Tech, I was the gospel choir director and the musical director for a student lead production called SING.
I started teaching professionally in during my undergraduate music studies, as my professors would recommend me as a teacher to local parents who would inquire about music lessons for their children.

Somatic Voicework™ The Lovetri Method is a body-based method of vocal training which draws from many disciplines. It is based upon voice science and medicine as well as traditional classical vocal training, complementary modalities such as yoga, movement, dance, acting, and speech training, and various body work approaches.
Level I training focuses on the functional principles of voice science and medicine.
Level II training focuses on diagnosing and fixing weaknesses in the voice.
Level III training focuses on repertoire, problem solving, and voice medicine.

Each new student begins with a trial lesson.
Here's what a typical trial voice lesson looks like:
1. I will ask you more about yourself, your musical background, and your musical goals
2. I will lead you through a few simple vocal exercises to gain more information about your voice
3. I will ask you to sing a verse and chorus of any song to get a sense of your current level of technique
4. I will explain how voices work, what I hear as your biggest challenges/areas of improvement, and explain the path moving forward to helping you reach your goals
Here's what it typical trial piano lesson will look like:
1. I will ask about your musical background, what styles of music you are most interested in playing, and your goals for playing the piano
2. If you are an absolute beginner, I will teach you about piano posture, the keyboard layout, reading simple music notation, and we will start by playing a few simple exercises with your right hand
3. If you have previous piano experience, I will ask you to play scales, chords, and a song you are familiar with.
4. I will explain the path moving forward to helping you reach your specific goals
I've worked with everyone from absolute beginners to professional musicians, ranging from age 3 to senior citizens. Some of my students are aspiring artists who have opened for internationally renowned singers, while others are hobbyists who simply want to discover their true voice in a supportive environment. I welcome all types of students!
Advice for seeking a music teacher:
Choose a music teacher with a background in education. An excellent musician is not necessarily an excellent teacher.
Make sure your teacher can play the type of music you want to play. If you want to learn gospel music, don't choose a teacher who only plays classical music. If you want to learn jazz, don't choose a teacher who only plays R&B. If you want to learn varied styles of music, choose a teacher who can play/sing multiple genres well.
