About Addie

Available Jan 20-May 5 in person around the Portland area, anytime virtually. Math and American Sign Language have always been two of my biggest passions in school and I have developed a love of writing and history in college. When I was younger, I found out I had dyslexia but learned many creative and out-of-the-box ways to get around it through my studies. This has taught me about many learning disabilities and some of the best ways to learn efficiently on any given subject.

Math- Through middle school and high school I have received all As, scored above average on the SAT, and have studied through Pre Calc.

American Sign Language- For the past 4 years, I have taken ASL at my high school and never received a grade lower than B+. In Spring of 2021, I completed a 203 American Sign Language course virtually through Portland State University.

English/Writing- Consistently got As and Bs through high school and have taken English through the 100 level at the University of Washington which will be continued at Lewis & Clark. I love writing and specialize in argumentative writings and speech/debate.

History- Always enjoyed history and have found very useful ways of studying, especially when it comes to names and dates. I also have a lot of education around colonial Southern and Northern American history but enjoy it all.

Baseball/Softball- I have experience coaching/training kids in softball and baseball at all levels. I was a utility player and can coach anywhere except pitcher and catcher. I was captain of my high school varsity team which placed 2nd in Washington state and have traveled the country to play gold level 16 & 18u tournaments (pre covid).

I love to work with all ages and have tutored from the 4-year-old basic alphabet and English principles to seniors in high school learning ASL. I have also been known to be a good essay editor and study partner in college. Since I was young, I have always enjoyed working with kids and like to make tutoring as fun as possible while learning as much as possible!

This June (2021) I will be receiving my high school deploma. Last year I tutored underclassmen in ASL every week and have coached here and there since middle school. I have always loved working with kids and getting to experience the art of learning something for the first time again.

The first time we meet, I like to talk to kids about what specific subjects they do well in or struggle in, what do they like learning about the most, what activities they like to do in and out of school, and anything I can ask to get to know them as a person and a student better. Once I feel I have a good understanding of things, I like to start with a challenging subject but find something they might find "easy" or "medium" to start with and build up from there.
