I am currently a Junior in High School taking AP Calculus BC. I have plenty of experience helping peers understand various types of math for years. Being able to help others has always been one of my main goals. When working with a new student, the first thing I like to do is ask about their favorite teacher and why they're their favorite. By asking this, I can find out information that can make it easier to connect to the student. After this, I ask about the specific unit the student is in, and the types of problems they're having trouble with. Before deciding how best to help the student, I ask about why they think they're having trouble. A lot of the time, the students have more understanding about what's stopping them than anybody else.
