About Sarah
I love communicating with my students in Japanese. I love sharing the love of Japan that we have. It's such an amazing place and such an amazing people.
I help facilitate and empower my students in pursuing Japanese. In my classes we use lots of different materials.
Songs and lyrics, worksheets, games, pictures and flashcards.
I lived in Japan for 3 years and that was 6 years ago. I have many experiences to share. I have a great passion to teach people who love Japan.
I went to Japan.
I have a Bachelor's in Japanese Studies from Earlham College (Richmond, IN). I worked in Japan for 3 years teaching English as a Second Language, so I know a lot about what language acquisition requires.
Most of my teaching experience is in teaching elementary and middle school aged students, but my last year in Japan I worked with a Wide variety of ages (3-85).

First I find out what the student knows, what their interests are, how determined they are and how much time they want to put into the process.
Then I might recommend a textbook for an older student, videos, music, radio, podcasts, books, that sort of thing - for immersion homework.
Then I tailor my lessons to the individual and the avenues of Japanese culture they want to pursue.
All types, but with a focus on elementary and middle school age groups.
Find a teacher that is enthusiastic and knows a lot about the people with whom you would potentially be speaking.
