About Shamus
What satisfies me about this job is seeing the ability of students flourish over time as they begin to understand the complex methods of understanding history. I've been tutoring student since 2017 and focus mostly on American history, African-American history, European history , geography and essay writing. I was a member of the national Society of high school scholars, national honor society, and the society of black academics. I am also a member of the Texas Southern University debate team so I also can teach students the complex skill of research. I got started teaching my junior year of high school when I noticed that a lot of students in my history courses were struggling to understand even the most basic concepts of history whether be American, African-American, European, or art history. So I offered my help the students after school for as long as they wanted me to and I would charge by however many people came to those sessions.
I am a senior at Texas Southern University and I will be graduating May 2022, and I have been tutoring since 2017, so basically when I graduated high school, and have continued to tutor college students and high school students alike for the past four years.

Typical process I like to undergo with any student that I begin tutoring is to see where it is that they are struggling, is it in reading comprehension, is it in test taking, or is it just trying to get a better grasp overall of the subject? Not every student is the same so I like to take my time and get him to understand the students needs and them as well.
I have worked with student athletes, Greek life students, and high school students that were independent and weren't part of organizations as well that struggled in the humanities.
Don't only look for somebody who just has the title of a history tutor look for somebody that you could find that has the ability to understand what you need help with. you are more than just a number you are a student and you are also still a person.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before I ask a teacher for help I look through two questions in my mind number one is can I find it in my notes, and number two is can I find it in the book. And if I still struggle to find what I'm looking for then I go to a teacher and ask for assistance and not only getting the answer but also making sure I know where to locate the references as well.
