About Adam
Hello there! My name is Adam. I am a stay at home dad, veteran, and graduate student at Middle Tennessee State University. I don't know everything, but I love history.
B.S. in History (Political Science and Psychology minors)
Nearly finished Masters in Education Instruction and Curriculum.
I'm in the process of becoming a licensed teacher, but until then I thought I'd make myself available.
Thank you!
Being a good teacher means being a good student. I'm always making myslef learn new things. The best feeling in the world is teaching someone else those new things I'm learning, or the old things that I've almost forgotten. Teaching keeps knowledge fresh, and seeing someone else learning is incredibly refreshing.
I was an okay student in high school. I was always a good kid, but most classes were easy and I did not learn how to study. I went to a few different colleges, did poorly (for many reasons) and decided to join the Army. I learned some easy lessons in difficult ways during that experience. I decided that when I had the opportunity I would go back to school and eventually become the kind of teacher that I needed in high school (but never had). Now, I'm finishing my M.Ed. with a 4.0. There is hope!
I have a B.S. in History with minors in Political Science and Psychology.
I am almost finished with my Masters of Education.
I was in the Army which lends itself to its own training and experiences that carry over into who I am now. It's a little more difficult to narrow down, but it's allowed me to have confidence even in my failures.

Everyone is different. We all learn in our own ways. It's important to understand how someone learns, and a good way to do that is by starting with who they are as a person. Knowing interests and motivations is crucial to effective teaching, especially from a distance.
I have mostly taught peer to peer, but I had the pleasure of spending some time with middle school students prior to the Covid-19 outbreak.
This is a fantastic question. Studying History is studying everything before this moment. No one can know or learn all of it. All we do is use what we learn to give context to our present life. Whether viewing history as a humanity or social science, it's important to learn how to interpret information for yourself, but also interpret the way your teacher interprets it. History is full of humans, and humans make mistakes. Occasionally we can learn something profound that will have an impact on who we are.
Most important advice: ask questions. "Why" is my favorite. You can never ask enough questions.
I love hockey. Having the NHL start again has been very exciting! That has nothing to do with teaching, but it sure helps make things feel a little more normal!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
"They" say asking for help is a sign of strength, right? But it's hard to work through a problem and still not understand. That doesn't mean you are not smart or will never understand. Take some time to sit back and ask yourself some questions. Is this something I can figure out myself? What happens when I Google this? Does the book say anything about this? Learning is like building. Reading about kings or presidents doesn't matter if you don't know what those things are. Figure out what you DO know and try to build on that. If you still can't figure it out, hire an internet tutor!

I am new to tutoring and close to licensure. I don't expect anyone to pay $100 dollars for my time. I don't want to sell myself short, but I understand the reality of it. I also know that times are hard for all of us and money isn't coming in like it used to. Standard prices are $10-40 an hour (according to my quick Google search). For now, I will say that if you can afford something in that range then that's ok with me.
