About Thomas
Thomas Coffey is the Director of Education for The Tampa Bay Area Guitar Society and a former University of South Florida Professor of Guitar who now offers private guitar lessons exclusively. He currently has over twenty-nine years experience teaching Classical and Acoustic Guitar privately and at the University level.
His students have won prizes in many international guitar competitions including the highly competitive Guitar Foundation of America and Christopher Parkening Competitions and have been accepted to and graduated from such renowned Classical Guitar Universities as The Berklee School of Music, Florida State University, The University of Southern California, and The Julliard School of Music.
Lessons include instruction in reading and interpreting music, music theory, the latest and most efficient guitar techniques, and developing repertoire according to the individual student's wants and needs.

My lessons with Thomas have been great. Since I started I have noticed that my rate of improvement has gone up significantly. Thomas does a great job breaking down pieces that make it easy for me to manage and always has good insight on things I can do to help and improve my playing.
In the past few months under Mr.Coffey, my understanding of how to build a piece of music has changed drastically. Mr.Coffey is the only teacher I have ever had who teaches me to play at the highest level I can rather than whatever level I am supposed to be at. I have noticed that when I learn a piece of music, all the tools he has taught me fall naturally into place and build much more exciting and interesting musicality. I am so lucky to have found him as a teacher!
