About James
As a graduate of Berklee College of Music I have a strong background in not only guitar playing but music theory, harmony, and ear training. I dont just teach guitar, but also the foundational skills to make you a very well rounded musician. I have been gigging professionally for over 10 years and know what it takes to get to get someone to that point. I also take the mechanical elements of playing very seriously. Many of my students have come to me thinking that they lack "talent" when in reality, there is an issue in their posture or hand position,etc. that is holding them back without them even realizing it. I teach all ages and have had students as young as 6 and as old as 80. I'm also comfortable teaching many styles, including Rock, Funk, Jazz, Country, Blues, Fingerstyle, Classical, and Pop. If you're just getting started, or you've been playing for a while and feel like you're in a rut, or just want some fresh ideas, I'd love to help you meet those goals. I like to spend the first lesson getting to know the student. I like to find out what their backround is, what style of music they like, how long they've been playing, etc. Then I like to find out what they're goals are. Everyone is different, so based on the goals, I tailor a curriculum for the student. I think it's important to have a plan and structure, so that the student stays motivated and sees consistent growth and success.
