About Nick
Hi! My name is Nick Vigilante. I have been playing guitar since I was eight years old and I am currently nineteen. I am on a gap year after graduating with a 4.0 GPA from Ben Franklin Academy In May of 2018. I am planning on attending Georgia State University in August of this year and potentially pursuing a music degree. I have a plethora of experience performing in front of a live audience and can teach students many skills about performance and improvisation. I am a rhythm-oriented player who has a very non-traditional approach to teaching. I’d say that the area I accel the most at is in songwriting. I can teach my students how to improve their creativity and when to improvise. I have been experimenting with new progressions and tunings since a very young age, and I’m very good at working with kids and young adults. I am also capable of instructing students on learning already exsisting works of music. It is important to note I am not fluent in sheet music, though I am capable of reading and teaching guitar tablature. I am the 5th generation of musicians in my family, and my parents have both received degrees from Emory University (My mother received her masters in political science and now teaches for Emory at the Oxford campus, my father attained a degree in law and is now the head of legal for CNN). It is important to note I am not as knowledgeable with the technical side of music, but I know how to play fluently, perform with passion and how to entertain a crowd. If you are looking for someone who can show a student what it takes to be a musician, then I am your guy! Sincerely,
Nicholas C Vigilante.
I was always the odd one out growing up. I know how it feels to be different and I feel that having an outlet such at music can be a tremendous help for a child or young adult. I have struggled with Tourette syndrome for my entire life (I was diagnosed at the age of five) and I always think back on my past and wish I would’ve had a mentor to teach me a skill such as guitar if for nothing else to pass the time. More than anything else I want to be an outlet for my students so they can not only learn a musical instrument, but also be guided in how to make the right choices in life from a young age.
I don't have an abundance of degrees and traditional qualifications, but in terms of raw experience I have a plethora of knowledge to share with my students!

My process always depends on the student and the knowledge they already have musically. If I'm instructing someone who already knows the basics and wants to improve their playing and expand their knowledge of music, then I will guide a less traditional approach with a more emphasized education in improv and how to keep a performance entertaining and enjoyable. On the other hand, if I am teaching a student with no prior music experience before anything else I will make sure that they can play proficiently and know their way around the instrument.
