About Drew
Hello, Mr. Harris here. I am a State of PA Level II Certified English (7-12) teacher with a degree in English and a Master's in Education. I have been teaching for 10 years in my hometown of Philadelphia. PA, and before that, I taught for 5 years in Baltimore, MD. In those 15 years, I have started a writing center, organized poetry slams, implemented and published a school-wide creative writing anthology, and have become a Literacy Coach and Department Head. As a department head, my team succeeded in scoring the HIGHEST Keystone Literature scores in the school's history AND the HIGHEST Keystone Literature scores of ALL Philadelphia Neighborhood Schools* (*non-special admit schools). I write and record music for my band, The Naked Sun (a literary reference), and I LOVE to cook in my spare time.
I love working with young people because they have interesting and powerful stories to tell, and I am honored to help them share their stories.

Having a conversation with scholars is very important to break the ice and to get to know one another. I am very fortunate that I am a musician as this tends to lead to interesting and engaging discussions. I like to ask a lot of questions to new scholars regarding their likes and dislikes regarding their educational experiences. I als like to gauge their selfawareness by asking them where they feel most/least strength when it comes to academics. Tailoring an education to a scholar's interests and needs is also vital, so I'll ask questions regarding these areas as well. I do not like to use surveys as face-toface conversations, Zoom/Facetime, create a stronger connection between the scholar and teacher.

Perfect! Mr. Harris is the best!
Perfect! Mr. Harris has recently started tutoring my Son, who is in his last year of High School, and I can honestly say that he is doing such an amazing job.
