About Sawyer
Most of my professional experience is in journalism. It's not the flashiest writing in the world, but it's always as succinct, comprehensive, and clean as possible.
I write for a living. It's not the best living, but it pays the bills (sometimes). If my writing and knowledge of the English language is good enough for publication it should be good enough for most school districts. I have trained under Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalists and am beholden to the highest standards of quality with everything I do.
I love seeing people get better -- at anything. If you choose to get better at writing, that's just a plus.
I have a B.A. in History and Religious Studies from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a M.S. in Communications/Journalism from Boston University. I am also a trained reporter who learned under the tutelge of Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalists.

The first step when working with a new student is to understand their problem areas so that we can work to improve. But also, it's important to learn where a new student's strengths are, so that we can bring those skills to the forefront.
I have worked with students as young as five-years-old, all the way to graduate students. I have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. The majority of my experience is with high-school and college students but I have taught nearly all grade levels.
The most important part of writing -- be it creative writing, technical writing, persuasive essays, or research papers -- is knowing how to take criticism. Writing can be an intensely personal act, and knowing how to learn from mistakes and use them to improve is critical. After all, even the greatest writers need feedback.
Recently, I co-taught an after school club of middle-school students focused on pitching, writing, editing and publishing art criticism to a local non-profit news outlet. Seven of the 12 students in the club had their work published and their work was also displayed in public libraries and community spaces in the area.
