About Kelly

Hi! My name is Kelly Clark and I am available for online tutoring/school help in ELA. I am currently a middle school reading and writing teacher. I have experience with kids ages Pre-K through high school, and feel comfortable working with all those ages. I know that these times are hard and I want to do my best to give your child an oppurtunity to learn, while also having some fun online.

Qualifications:

I taught Pre-K for two years and am currently in my 2nd year teaching middle school english.

I am certified 4-8 Reading/ Writing/ Social Studies and English as a Second Language (ESL).

I specialized in creative writing in college. :)

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I was the oldest of 6 kids growing up and I always loved "playing school" with them. I would sit on a chair and read books to them, even before I actually knew how to read the words on the page.

I had two amazing teachers in middle school that I looked up to so much. One of those teachers was my 6th grade english teacher. She not only helped me to be a better reader and writer, but she took time out of her day to show me that she cared about me. She is still someone I talk to consistently (12 + years later), because of the impact she left on my life.

I am blessed to actually currently teach at my old middle school. I walk into school everyday just filled with joy that my life turned out exactly as I always hoped. I get to walk into a place filled with hundreds of books and get the oppurtunity to make a difference on a child's life.

I hold a valid Texas teaching certification in 4-8 Reading/ Writing/ Social Studies and English as a Second Language (ESL).

I have a Bachelors Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Education) from Texas State University.

I do online lessons and tutoring via zoom. Before I agree to begin working with your student, I always like to set up a FREE conference to make sure that we would be a good fit for each other. This session will be roughly 15-20 minutes to allow me to get to know your student (or you if you are reaching out yourself), their goals from our meetings, and to access their basic understanding of the content.

I have worked with all types of students. I have worked with Pre-K students, elementary students, middle school students, and high school aged students. I have worked with students with a wide vairety of learning disabilities including dyslexia, ADHD, ADD, and reading processing disorder.  I have also worked with ESL/ELL students from all over the world.

Look for a teacher that you "click" with. While I had some AMAZING teachers growing up, I also had some not so good teachers too. It is important to find someone that is not only knowledgeable in their field of expertise, but who also is a good listener and can meet YOUR needs with your education.

Last year while I was teaching 8th grade ELA, I had a student write me a note on the last day of school. I had helped her to get into science fiction/ dystopian books (my favorite genre to read). She had started reading Divergent by Veronica Roth for an end of the year project and she actaully continued and finished the entire series (Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant). In her note, she told me that she had not read a series of books beginning to end since early elementary. She said that it was my encouragement and love of reading that had inspired her to pick up the books and actually invest in reading them.

My students actually put together a whole journal of thank you letters, but knowing that I had played a role in a student's desire to read was the best feeling in the world.
