About Carlo
I have over six years experience teaching essay writing at the college level. I have also taught reading comprehension, ACT Reading and Writing, and college entrance essay writing. I have experience teaching students ages 14 and up as well as tutoring students as young as 6 to as old as 17. I am patient, compassionate, and determined to formulate a game plan that will work for you as an individual student.
I enjoy knowing that I have helped a student acheive their goals as a researcher and writer. Being able to express oneself on the page is an imprtant skill, one that is valuable for your career and also personal life. I look forward to being a part of your scholastic journey.
I got started teaching when I was studying for my MFA at Emerson College. There, I studied Teaching Academic Writing and I learned there are many ways to get students to becoem actively engaged with their schoolwork.
I have a Bachelor's in English from Hofstra University and a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College.
I spent over six years teaching First-Year Academic Composition, ACT Reading and Writing and Reading Comprehension at CUNY Kingsborough Community College.
I also worked as a Drop-In Tutor for 826 Boston.

When meeting a new student I typically ask to take a look at their current and future assignments and ask them what their expecations are for the school year. We then discuss what they are concerned about going into tutoring and if there are any specific topics they would like to work on. I then have an informal conversation about the things that interest them. I genuinely believe that if a student has the opportunity to write about what interests them, they have a greater chance of succeding. I then begin to tailor an approach that I feel best fits their skills and interests.
I have worked with students of all ethnicities and ages.
When looking to hire a teacher, look for how comfortable you will feel with them. Writing can be personal so you wnat to make sure you are working with someone who will respect you and your thoughts.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
When talking to teachers about your needs it is important to honeslty talk about your fears as a student. Most students are better at whatever subject they are studying than they realize but they have certain fears regarding that subject. Maybe they are afraid of failing a certain class, or looking foolish, or of putting a little extra time and effort. Whatever the case, make sure to address those issues with your teacher and ask them to come up with ways to alleviate your concerns.
