About Charles

At TDA Hoops we use the sport of basketball to not only develop basketball skills but life skills as well. We've been training since 2014, but made it an official business in 2017. My passion for basketball training came from my playing days. I was a great player but my decision making in those days was very poor, so my goal is to make sure players today don't make those same bad choices. I've worked with pro players from the NBA development league to overseas players as well as some of the top high school players in the nation and state. Our overall goal is to make a better player a better person as well. You can find me via social media just search my name (Charles Lewis) and you'll be able to see videos of trainings, some of the players, and get to know me better.

I enjoy the process of getting better. I love that I'm able to develop and inspire young athletes to be better players and better people.

I started just training with youth in my neighborhood as a way to keep them out of trouble. Then it started to grow larger and larger each week and people started to see the results on and off the court.

I started playing basketball at 7 years old, and by 10 I knew that I was pretty good. I began working with a trainer at 12 who became more like a father figure to me. By age 14 I was ranked as one of the top players in the country. We played all over the country for a span of about 5 years then I played a couple years of college. After college I started to just get kids around the neighborhood and train with them just to be active and give back to the community. My passion was basketball but my purpose was to mentor the youth, and that's how TDA Hoops was created. I started a basketball team under the TDA Hoops brand so we not only mentor and train but we have teams as well.

We'll start with some basic ball handling and shooting drills so we can see what level of training you're prepared for. Once we finish those we can stay with the basics of needed or we can advance to something more difficult.

I've worked with students from all walks of life, I've had kids who had never touched a ball that in one year was good enough to make his high school team. I've had pro players who came in because they heard how passionate I am about it and just wanted to work with me. I've had and still have some of the top high school boys and girls in the state of Mississippi, so I've been in contact with several kinds of people.

Make sure your teacher has a passion for teaching and not just making money, because it takes a lot of patience to be a trainer. Make sure they are up and teaching as well, not just giving you a drill and sitting down.

One event that comes to mind is our Gold Ball Grind sessions. That's when me and a few more of our trainers will go to schools and work with the team to prepare them for their season and hopefully win a gold ball because of it. Our first one was with Ridgeland High School, and we're currently working with Hillcrest Christian School.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The first question a student should aske themselves is. How bad do I want this? The next question is. What am I willing to sacrifice to have it? Most people think the training will work overnight, let me burst that bubble right now, it does not! So make sure you understand that getting better is a lifelong process and everyday you wake up you have to be improving something.
