Svetlana gave clear, advance instructions both verbally and through demonstrations each step of the way. Her gentle demeanor was encouraging yet she pushed us to go further than we ourselves thought we could go. I highly recommend Svetlana as a teacher for any age.

My daughter has taken classes with Ms. Svetlana for several years. Ms. Svetlana is not only an inspiring ballerina, but most importantly has an amazing approach towards kids. She understands their world and relates to them in a very creative way. You can tell that teaching is her passion. She creates an environment where the kids feel encouraged to express themselves through dance, build confidence and improve their stage presence. I have also taken Barre classes with her and I felt great challenging myself with a different type of an exercise, which awoke muscles in my body I didn't know I had:) Ms. Svetlana has been very flexible during Covid times. Outdoors classes and private lessons are well worth it.

Svetlana is a terrific instructor!! I have enjoyed her adult barre class and was able to follow her instructions easily although I had no prior experience. In addition, I have seen Svetlana work with kids as little as 3-4 years old. Her love for the kids, patience and ability to grab their attention is mesmerizing to watch. She is a true professional who is able to work with any person at any age, beginner or experienced and I highly recommend her!

I am honored to write on behalf of Ms. Svetlana Nikoloff, founder and co-owner of Adagio Ballet School of Dance. Svetlana has been a great teacher and mentor for me both as a child and as a young woman finding my place in the world. Her experience of coming to the United States when she was very young and establishing herself in a new place with a foreign language and culture all while raising a child and then continuing to grow her business for more than fifteen years has been very inspiring to me.
My family moved to California when I was about fourteen years old, so I stopped studying at Svetlana’s school at that time, but one of the things my ballet teacher in California, Wendy Lawson observed was that I must have had a wonderful ballet teacher in my early years, because I was a very disciplined and well-trained student. She was very right and I told her very happily and wistfully about my years at Adagio studying under Svetlana.
Now I have graduated from college and I am considering what I would like to do as a career. I know I will continue to take ballet classes in the future, because ballet is one of the things I love most in life thanks to Svetlana and her wonderful school. Perhaps I will live in the D.C. area again later in life and in that case it would be very special for me if my children (in the case that I have them) could attend her school.
Svetlana is one of the hardest-working, most passionate, and determined people I have met in my life. She inspires me and I hope that she will be rewarded for all her hard-work as well as her talent and ideas in the future.

To Future Clients of Ms. Svetlana,

Under the professional leadership of Ms. Svetlana, our daughter Valerie had an outstanding dance education for fifteen years. It was an enriching life experience for Valerie, as a young student, to learn and love dance fundamentals taught by Ms. Svetlana…then progress over the years to train under her curriculum in
pre-professional intensive ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance programs.

As the Founding Director of Adagio Ballet School of Dance, Ms. Svetlana designed a curriculum for her dance school to instill grace and self-confidence, while continuously tailoring developmental, artistic and technical skills to the needs of the students. We were extremely pleased with the creativity and quality of the winter and spring large-scale recitals. Also, as a member of the Adagio Dance Company, our daughter gained valuable performance experience by participating in festivals and philanthropic events in Northern Virginia. The skills and techniques she learned enabled her to audition and be selected three consecutive years for “Moscow Ballet’s The Nutcracker” as well as to train and participate twice in the “Youth America Grand Prix.”

Ms. Svetlana’s passion and devotion to the art of dance is evident. We are thankful to her for creating such a joyful dance journey for our daughter.

My daughter started taking ballet when she was three years old at Adagio Ballet with Ms. Svetlana when it was just a small studio. My daughter fell in love with ballet I’m sure in large part due to the kind, caring, fun and supportive, environment that Ms. Svetlana created. As Adagio grew as a school to teach children and teens of all ages in not just ballet but other forms of dance, Ms. Svetlana maintained an interest in all her students and their progress and achievements. I would highly recommend her not just for her recognized ability to teach ballet technique but for being a kind and caring teacher who encouraged and modeled a love of dance.
