I've taught over 11 years at the university level, and I value passing down principles that have been shared throughout the ages. I especially enjoy stories that give its reader or audience an experience, a journey, something meaningful and heartfelt. For me, time disappears when I'm writing, so I recognize it as a gift to be studied, respected, and honored.
When I was earning an MA in playwriting at Boston University, I was hired to teach an undergraduate course in creative writing. I really connected to the students and teaching, and knew then and there I was supposed to be doing this. I've taught at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Niagara University, City University of New York, and currently in the MA/MFA creative writing program at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The process is geared to their needs and work. Whether we're building a new work from scratch or revising an older one, I can workshop and read aloud work, or introduce needed craft tools, or I can read work on the outside and respond in class. Whatever best serves the student and the work.
From teenagers to senior citizens
Interview them and make sure there's give and take. It's not all about imparting principles and theory. Listening is extremely important too.
One bright spot of isolating during COVID-19 has been the amount of writing I've been able to accomplish. I've completed a new short play, two new YA manuscripts, and a family holiday play. And I've begun a third YA manuscript, which will be book two to Other People's Crazy, turning it into a series. Exciting times--despite it all.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Figure out what you want to accomplish in the class and the time you have to commit. For creative writing, there are many facets to consider: researching, brainstorming, outlining, the first draft, revisions, readings, publishing, etc.

I worked with Mr. Fletcher while attending Wilkes University. He helped guide me through my Master's thesis. I had tremendous difficulty figuring out how to structure my memoir, but Mr. Fletcher gave me simple tips used in playwriting to add form and purpose to my work. Mr. Fletcher is a rare person - someone who can not only write but teach. And he does it all with an amazing amount of heart and humility. He was the perfect mentor. I wouldn't have finished my memoir without him.
Greg really took you through the process. He makes sure that all boxes are checked and all things understood.
I would highly recommend working with not just a well accomplished teacher but one that cares about his students and wants them to succeed in not just class but life.
You will be fortunate to have had Greg Fletcher as a teacher or mentor.Greg is personable, knowledgeable, and most importantly EXPERIENCED. His teaching style incorporates textbook techniques in addition to his real life industry adventures. I truly loved having Greg as a teacher and to this day still use techniques he taught me over ten years ago.
Provides decades of experience and expertise, with a proven track record of good work! He provides constructive feedback to help you get better at what you love.
Greg is one of my mentors. His expertise and understanding of the craft of creative writing has taken root in me as one of his former students. I am a screenwriter and, with Greg’s guidance, have finessed many various works, from scripts, to poetry, to freeform writing projects. The structural foundation he’s provided has no doubt played a vital role in my confidence and success. Do yourself a favor and collaborate with this man!
Greg always provided a clear understanding of course task requirements and was very patient in answering class questions regarding the plays being studied and/or performed.
Working with Greg was a wonderful creative experience. He finds the perfect balance between pushing a student to do his/ her best and providing praise, encouragement, and support. He is a joy to learn from.
I understood his notes and highly respect his background experience.
Greg is such a phenomenal teacher and human being! His guidance in class mixed with his care make him ideal for teaching creative writing and playwriting. Greg cares for all of his students and also has a great eye in helping you grow in your process. Simply put, Greg is the best!
Greg is one remarkable playwright and teacher. A passionate, considerate, kind soul. He lives and breathes theatre; his pedagogical style asserts this, while also taking great interest in his students’ success and understanding of the form.
Fair, calm, with a well-rounded world view, Greg both teaches, and provides students with the tools to keep learning through life.
Greg excels at asking you the questions that you may not have thought of about your script or story. He doesn't tell you the answer. He may provide examples, but he never insists. He allows you to marinate the information and then come up with the piece of the puzzle that was missing to make your work a more complete, entertaining, realistic, and realized manuscript.
He will also challenge you to construct dialogue that gets the audience to "lean forward" and not predict the next line, which in my many years learning from and knowing Greg, have made all the difference. And on top of all the classes, he's just a delightful guy who will always make you laugh. I'd sign up for a class just to hang out with Greg. Couldn't recommend more. His work is very engaging and inspires students to discover our own voices. He’s very approachable and we were able to have craft conversations that really sparked my creativity.
Amazing instructor who provides extremely helpful and constructive feedback. He brought positive and meaningful lessons to the table, while allowing students to explore and grow at their own pace. A true pleasure to work with.
In all honesty, I've taken these lessons and have been able to use them in my everyday writing. I've now accomplished a variety of short films and plays, and I owe a huge part of that to the detail and attention Greg gives in his lessons. 🙏🏾
I had Greg as an independent study in playwrighting professor. He is as encouraging and kind as a professor should be, with as much practical knowledge to match. If you get the opportunity to take a course from him I highly suggest it. I'm grateful I had an instructor like him to help foster my creative spirit.
Gregory is a smart, full of life, inspiring, and engaging instructor. He cares deeply about the creative process, and always goes above and beyond to ensure you have the tools in your toolkit to do great work. Couldn't recommend enough!
Greg’s knowledge and passion made me want to be a better writer. His lessons have stayed with me over many years. He’s simply one of the best!
Gregory Fletcher has a way of connecting with each artist as an individual. He helped me find my style and my voice. The advice and guidance from someone so accomplished in this industry has had such and impact on my own success. I cannot recommend working with Greg enough.
Kind, encouraging, professional, and experienced. Truly an exceptional mentor.
