About April
I am a professional singer, actor, voiceover actor, and vocal coach. I graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. I've taught private vocal lessons since 2010 and have worked with over 300 students with ages ranging from 7 years old to 80. There is no secret to singing - it comes from a lot of hard work and the desire to learn to sing with correct technique. Years ago (after having sung with less than stellar vocal technique), I was put on vocal rest for three months (no talking, singing, nada, zip!) during which my vocal folds healed. I then had to completely rebuild my voice from the ground up. I am passionate about teaching correct vocal technique the first time around! I love hearing a student say, "That was easy!" Yes! Singing can be easy when you learn how to do it correctly. These light-bulb moments are my favorite as a student discovers their own unique voice.

My teaching style is very individualized and although I have a weekly lesson plan outline, I'm able to easily adjust to each student's level and goals. The first 10-20 minutes of each lesson is usually spent doing vocal exercises, where we focus on a specific singing goal. The time varies depending on the student's needs. The remaining lesson time is spent on the individual songs each student has chosen, and applying what is learned in the vocal exercises to the real world of singing. I currently have students ranging from 10 years old to 80 years old, and their vocal abilities and styles are just as varied as their ages! I teach several styles of singing: Legit, Traditional Musical Theatre, Contemporary Musical Theatre, Classical/Opera, Jazz, and Pop.
