About Mary
Hi, I’m Mary! I am a History graduate from Newcastle University and will soon be beginning my master’s degree in History. For over a year, I have supported A-Level students across Religious Studies, History and English Literature, helping them improve their confidence, subject knowledge and examination skills.
I understand that A-Level Religious Studies can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when dealing with complex scholars, abstract arguments and competing viewpoints. I aim to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, discussing ideas and working through difficult topics at their own pace.
I particularly enjoy helping students develop their own arguments and express them clearly in essays. Through patient guidance and personalised support, I help students strengthen their analytical and evaluative writing skills, giving them the confidence and ability to approach their examinations successfully.

My lessons are relaxed, supportive and tailored to the individual needs of each A-Level Religious Studies student. I help students strengthen their understanding of philosophy, ethics and religious thought while developing the analytical and evaluative skills required for successful exam responses.
Lessons are typically one hour long and may include interactive discussions, retrieval activities, structured essay planning, model paragraphs and practice exam questions. I break complex theories and arguments into clear, manageable steps, helping students accurately explain contrasting viewpoints and make meaningful connections between topics.
A major focus of my teaching is essay technique. I help students construct clear arguments, use scholars and evidence effectively, evaluate different perspectives and reach well-supported conclusions. My aim is to help students approach complex ideas with clarity, develop confident arguments and produce thoughtful, well-structured exam responses.
