About Sasha
At the age of 11, Sasha got their start composing at the Walden School Young Musicians Program, where they had several works premiered by the International Contemporary Ensemble. Sasha attended University of North Carolina School of the Arts for high school, where they won several awards for composition and had the opportunity to work with yMusic. At Oberlin Conservatory, they have performed Early choral music with the Collegium Musicum by day and rocked the coverband showcase by night. Sasha is a regular performer in OBurlesque. Most recently, Sasha fulfilled their life’s dream to perform Dave Malloy’s Ghost Quartet in the role of Pearl. At age 16, Sasha wrote, recorded, and released their first EP: The Ballad. They have released two collections as part of their studies: Artsongs Live! which features selections from their cycle of self-accompanied art songs, and Songs for a CyberBar, which combines musique concréte techniques with the song structure of Australian folk music. Their second EP, Royal Pigeon Claw, is a cross-genre reflection on Sasha's favorite books.

I use a lot of composition and improvisation based techniques to teach sight reading and theory, because I believe that theory is the springboard for adventure and fun, not just memorizing and regurgitating information! My theory lessons are best for middle and high schoolers, especially if you are preparing to take the AP music theory exam. However, I am happy to teach anyone of any level of experience!
