About Laura

I am a tutor, editor, proofreader and writer. I have two degrees from the University of Edinburgh and a proofreading qualification. For the last 12 years I have been working as a proofreader, editor, tutor and writing coach. I have extensive experience working on academic essays, research projects, PhDs and publications. I enjoy working with people and helping them to make their work the best it can be. I know that university can be a challenging time, either due to the change in academic setting, or to the change from one country to the next, and I like helping people to overcome this and produce quality pieces of work.

About the class

Academic tutoring in essay and dissertation writing, assignment completion and essay and dissertation research for undergraduate, masters and PhD students in arts and humanities subjects. Unsure if this will help? No worries. Get in touch and let's have a chat about what you need and what you're looking for. I have worked extensively with students and academics in business, management, nursing, languages, education, literature, media, and many more. This service is designed for those who find themselves struggling or overwhelmed at university, unsure of how to approach an independent research project, or experiencing difficulty adapting to the university style of study. Whilst I am based in Edinburgh, all tutoring is remote and I provide tutoring and writing coaching services to students around the world. Tutoring can be via Zoom, Google Hangouts or over the phone, or a combination thereof. This approach will usually involve both conversations and notes and feedback on your essays/projects sent via email. I’m also happy to chat to you on the phone before we begin so we can work out if I’m able to provide the service you’re looking for. Generally we will chat as often as you need to work on the project of your choice; this can be an essay, poster, presentation, dissertation or whatever you feel needs work. Alternatively, we can train your academic writing skills with pieces and short projects that I can set, building up your confidence as an independent researcher and academic writer. If you have any questions, just get in touch and I’ll get back to you with further contact details and information as quickly as possible. Tell me exactly what you’re looking for and we can arrange a time to chat or even to begin working together.

Perfect! I would like to leave a review for Laura, who has been incredibly helpful in guiding me through my academic studies. She assisted me with planning my essay, structuring my work, and providing continuous support throughout my university journey. Her guidance made me feel well-supported and encouraged in my development, and as a result, I now feel much more confident in my abilities. Laura is very reliable, responds quickly to emails, and always ensures the work is completed to a high standard. I found the 1-to-1 sessions via Zoom very efficient, making it comfortable and flexible with scheduling. Her support also helped significantly reduce my anxiety about academic writing

Laura supported me through the last two years of a PhD in language education, editing chapters at every stage, discussing research problems, transcribing meetings necessary and helping me complete, all during pandemic. Her proofreading was essential to finishing the work and getting doctorate in really difficult times!

She helped me with my dissertation and several essays through the final year of my business degree. One day I even had a total panic and called telling her about my latest meet with my supervisor. Laura was so calm and helpful! We arranged for a meeting asap to discuss and address. I did really well in my final grade.

Laura's been supporting me to develop my projects for the six months. She is always reliable, meets deadlines, and provides accuracy and attention to detail. I know for each essay I'm working on, she will talk it through with me, helping me sort my ideas, and then support me in the process of completing the work to the finish, with a final edit to make sure submission is perfect

Laura has supported me with my dissertation development through the entire process. When we started working together, I was completely lost, had no idea how to approach the project and what I was expected to do. Laura calmly laid out the steps involved, supported me to explain what I wanted to focus on, and helped me come up with realistic project. From there, she has guided me each step of the way, with feedback, lots of emotional support and editing, through to a completed dissertation that was awarded a first!!
