About Katy
English has always been my passion, and after leaving school I was accepted into English Language and Literature at Trinity College Dublin, one of Europe's most prestigious universities for this subject area. I spent four years exclusively studying English, with modules ranging from medieval literature to Shakespeare to contemporary American poetry.
I have previous tutoring and teaching experience. During my final year of university I volunteered with a charity that pairs students from disadvantaged backgrounds with students who help them to prepare for state exams and gain entry into their chosen university course. I gave weekly grinds in English and History to a Leaving Certificate student, and it was extremely rewarding to help him to succeed academically.
I also spent a summer working at a summer camp in Maine, USA. This was an incredible experience that allowed me to really develop my strategies for working with children of a variety of ages, learning abilities and backgrounds.
Upon moving to London from Ireland in June 2021, I secured a place working in London Academy as a Teaching Assistant after completing a thorough application process with a leading London agency, Prospero Teaching. I spent three weeks working both one-on-one with students and assisting in the classroom. The SEN department in this school was incredible and I learned so much in my short time there about how to connect with the students and tailor my teaching approach based on their specific needs.
While my contract at the school was set to continue for this academic year, I have made the decision to pursue further study. I am therefore looking to continue to work in education in a way that fill fit around my MA program, and private tutoring seems like the perfect way to do just that!
