About Eric
I am a Webby-nominated software engineer, engineering leader, author, and educator with more than 20 years of experience building production software and mentoring developers.
I am the author of *Composing Software* and have taught and mentored hundreds of software developers. At Adobe, I led Firefly client engineering, building the shared client platform behind the Firefly GenAI suite and GenAI features for other Adobe products such as Photoshop and Express.
My experience spans JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, software architecture, testing, AI engineering, product development, and engineering leadership. I have built software used by millions of people and worked with startups, major technology companies, and global brands including Zumba Fitness and The Wall Street Journal.
As a teacher, I focus on helping students understand the deeper principles behind software engineering, develop strong technical judgment, and become confident, independent problem solvers.

I teach by combining clear explanation with hands-on application. We work through concepts until they make sense, then apply them by writing code, debugging problems, reviewing implementations, and building real software.
A typical lesson starts with questions or a review of assigned reading, followed by focused instruction on the topic. We then work through practical examples together. I make sure each concept is understood before building on it.
I have taught and mentored hundreds of software developers and have more than 20 years of professional software engineering experience. I am the author of Composing Software and have built and led software and AI systems used at large scale.
