I've done an internship for teaching in high school (math). Some basic tips:
Know the subject matter you wish to teach (naturally)
Explain using basic terms, whenever you use terminology, quickly summarize what is meant by it. See people getting confused? rehearse the term, ask questions - see if the person you're teaching understands before you continue on.
Make use of diagrams, drawings and/or pictures. Visual aids are very useful - write down key words on a blackboard/piece of paper, preferably in a step-by-step rundown, a schema.
Record yourself, listen back to your explanation - are you covering all you need to know? Is it in a cohesive manner and proper order?
Involve the person you're teaching, keep them engaged by looking at them, read their expression as you're explaining the material - notice how they react. You can usually see a question pop up before they ask which is a nice indicator that maybe you need to focus on a part of the material more or explain it differently.
I like to use divide and conquer, basically split up chunks of knowledge that is needed, explain that as best you can - write down the general rule somewhere, and integrate that into the follow-up material by working out an example (if applicable in whatever it is you're trying to teach).
lastly, reflection is super important - check if you're engaging the students, are you not mixing your explanation with synonyms which may lead to confusion? (this happened often for me actually). Also try to not derail yourself by adding tit bits of knowledge to the lesson - keep it focused and add the extra knowledge in the end if you want as trivia.
