• When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

  I learned the Rubix Cube from my uncle when I was in primary school. He used to taunt us with his skills and one day, I decided to learn it from him. He didn’t think I could do it but I surprised him when I learned it in a day. Ever since, people have asked me to teach them, offering varying fees. My passion for it came after seeing the happiness on my students’ faces when they managed to solve the cube.

• Which artists or works affect you the most?

  I don’t have specific artists or works that affect me within this industry as it is incredibly niche. But in terms of teaching people, I looked up to my grandfather a lot as he was a high school principal. His work ethics have shaped my style of teaching today and helped me through countless struggles.

• What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

  I would say you need to have a lot of patience to teach people. It’s not easy to teach someone something you find easy when they are struggling. Without patience, you would only discourage your students and give them a bad experience. But with patience, you can guide them to eventual success and make it a cherished memory.

• What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

  I’d tell them that the pride and satisfaction you get when you pull through and complete these projects is undeniably immense. You don’t get that kind of feeling anywhere else. Trust me, I feel it all the time when I teach someone something new.

• How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

  As I’ve mentioned before, I’m always very proud when I teach my students, regardless if they succeed or not ( although I do have a 100% success rate). The satisfaction of teaching has always been the high that I chase whenever I do the Rubix cube classes. Besides that, I’m always thrilled to meet different people from all walks of life.

• What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

  I don’t have much creative achievements to boast of but recently, I taught my 50th student and I realized just how far I’ve come in teaching the Rubix cube. Safe to say, it’s been quite the journey.

• Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

  I have! First, I had a 7 year old student who grasped the concept of the Rubix cube incredibly fast. He was eager and enthusiastic but I assumed such energy would not last. I was surprised when he kept that spirit for all our classes and managed to complete the cube. On the other hand, I had a 40 year old student who despite her late age, wanted to learn the cube. I had thought it would be a challenge since I’ve seen many older people struggle to do so. But she progressed quite fast and managed to complete the cube as well. Of course, I’m always very impressed with all my students:)

• Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

  Well, I wouldn’t say I have a secret to it but I do make it a mission to make my classes enjoyable for all my students. I make it a stress and judgement free zone and implore my students to have fun!
