About Joy
I am a couture dressmaker, fashion designer and qualified educator with over 30 years’ professional experience in fashion and textiles and more than 14 years’ experience in teaching, assessing and consultancy. My background includes couture dressmaking, professional garment construction, pattern cutting and sample development, alongside extensive experience teaching fashion and design. I hold a BA (Hons) in Fashion Studies, an MA in Education, Culture, Language and Identity, and two postgraduate teaching qualifications. I have recently completed a practice-based PhD in Creative Arts and Design at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.

I offer specialist one to one tuition in couture dressmaking, pattern cutting, garment construction and fitting, tailored to your individual experience and goals. Whether you are developing advanced sewing skills, creating a professionally finished garment, improving your pattern cutting or resolving construction and fitting problems, lessons combine practical demonstration with expert guidance. I also support fashion students, graduates and emerging designers who want to strengthen their technical skills and translate design ideas into beautifully constructed garments.
