About Holden
Hi! I'm Holden, I live and work in Carlisle in Cumbria, and teach chess on the side! As a junior I played chess competitively, and eventually progressed to the England Team where I represented the squad many times. Chess has taken me all over the world, having played in Gibraltar, Bulgaria, Greece, the Netherlands, and India. I am a two time Cumbria County Champion (2024/2025) and understand the competitive side of the game. Outside of chess I enjoy climbing, walking and getting into the outdoors. No doubt there are plenty of excellent chess resources available at reasonable prices, but we didn’t want our pre-teen chess obsessed son spending too many hours online in the company of chess-bots. Holden provided excellent teaching, humor, perspective and mentorship - somebody for our son to look up to. A wonderfully decent, reliable and kind human being who we couldn’t rate any higher.
