About Sierra

As a Communication Sciences and Disorders student on the SLP path, I understand how important it is for children and teens to feel heard and encouraged while they learn. I also have severe hearing loss and use hearing aids, which has given me personal experience with communication, learning challenges, and the frustration that can come with mastering something difficult.

I am hardworking, patient, and creative, and I do not believe in limiting a student's potential, as my supporters never did with mine. I'm a very honest person, specifically for my pre/IB students, I know the work is tough. However, the accomplishment is so worth it in the end, and I would be more than happy to aid in any way I can.

My approach to tutoring is supportive and personalized to each student.

I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable and make mistakes. I use creative, age-appropriate activities, explanations, examples, and practice to make lessons engaging rather than simply giving students answers. I adjust my approach based on the student's learning style, age, and strengths, to where they need additional support.

A typical lesson begins by checking in with the student and reviewing what they already understand and checking in with how they feel. Sometimes learning is tiring; I totally understand that. We then focus on the main skill or subject for the day. I like to work through examples together and finish with independent practice to really boost those skills. I also encourage a creative activity to reinforce the material. I want students to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived.

What sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the student's growth and confidence. My goal is to make the student feel supported while helping them recognize what they are capable of achieving, because really, every student is capable.

My lessons are designed for elementary, middle, and high school students, including students who need additional support with English, reading, spelling, writing, K-5 math and science, or IB and Pre-IB subjects such as English Literature, Biology, Psychology, and History. I understand how challenging IB is.
