About Daniel
Math has always been one of my biggest passions. I never understood why students generally hated math until I watched my brother attempt to help his son with his math homework. The frustration was apparent from both ends of the table, and my nephew was nearly in tears by the end without gaining any progress in his homework
I offered to help out later, and my brother replied, "Good luck." I approached my nephew and asked if he wanted to look at his math homework again with me. There was hesitation, but I assured him that I just wanted to see what he was working on and if I had any pointers
When he told me what the subject was - point-slope form - I replied with, "Ah, graphs! I love graphs!" This immediately made him laugh, brought a positive energy to the tutoring session, and made the subject seem more approachable
As time went on, I became the go-to person for help with math. I learned how each of my brothers' kids (and even some of their friends) learned best so I could approach the tutoring session with a method that would work. I continued the running joke of "Ah, [subject]! I love [subject]!" which continued to lighten moods and keep the positive energy flowing
All of this is a long-winded way of saying that I have a passion for math and want to help all students find even the smallest spark of passion for math - or at least learn to tolerate it a little more

I teach with a "Show your work" mindset. Getting the correct answer is only half the battle: Explaining how and why you got that answer is the true test of learning
My students will learn how to think critically about math and apply an aggregate of logic and understanding to solve complex problems with ease
I typically work with middle school to high school ages. My strongest areas of expertise are algebra and calculus, but I have a broad knowledge of topics ranging from pre-algebra to multivariable calculus
