About Abby
I earned both a BA and MA in Classics at UC Riverside and University of Manitoba respectively. I'm originally from California, but I now live in the cold winters of Canada.
I love folklore and mythology very much, and I also love poetry. I think this is why I loved learning Latin so much, because you get all three of these aspects, plus a cool language.
I look forward to sharing my love of language and folklore with you!

I have been tutoring and teaching students in all levels of Latin and mythology for 5 years, and I have enjoyed the experiences immensely. I love working with the language, as well as teaching English etymology, Greek/Roman mythology and culture.
I try to engage the students as much as possible and have them learn from everything. I follow that wonderful motto given by Miss Frizzle: take chances, make mistakes!
I teach Latin mainly through translations of myths, as these texts are very useful for putting grammar and vocabulary into familiar contexts. I generally use Wheelock's Latin course, but I have also used Cambridge, Oxford, Ecce Romani, and others.
For mythology in English translations, I teach by discussing the characters of the myths, as well as the contexts in Greek and Roman history. For general mythology, I like to use Edith Hamilton's book or D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths. For texts like the Odyssey, I use Emily Wilson's translation.
