About Jerry
Hi, I'm Jerry, a cybersecurity professional with over 15 years of enterprise IT experience, including CISSP and CEH certifications and hands-on work in penetration testing, identity and access management, and security architecture. I currently lead an enterprise information security program, but I didn't start out in cybersecurity — I moved into the field later in my career, which means I understand firsthand what it takes to break in without a traditional head start, and I enjoy helping others do the same.

My approach starts with the basics. Cybersecurity depends on a solid understanding of how computers and networks actually work, so rather than jumping straight into advanced topics, I meet students where they are and build up from there at a pace that fits their background and goals. Wherever possible, I bring in practical, hands-on lab demonstrations so concepts aren't just theoretical — students see how an attack, a control, or a configuration actually behaves. I also lean heavily on visuals: as someone with an extensive architecture and whiteboarding background, I find that diagrams and drawn-out models make complex systems click for visual learners in a way that text alone often doesn't.
A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in on what the student already knows and what they're working toward, followed by a short explanation of the concept using a diagram or whiteboard sketch, then a hands-on lab or worked example to apply it, and time at the end for questions and a look ahead to the next session.
What sets me apart is a combination of real-world depth and exam experience. I've personally sat some of the toughest certification exams in the industry, including CISSP and TOGAF, so I know what actually matters versus what's just noise, and I can help students study efficiently rather than aimlessly. Combined with my day-to-day architecture and security work, I can connect exam material to how it's actually used on the job.
My lessons are suited to complete beginners building foundational computer and networking knowledge, students preparing for certifications like CISSP, CEH, Security+, or TOGAF, and career changers or working professionals looking to break into cybersecurity — whatever stage you're starting from, I'll tailor the lessons to get you where you want to go.
